The students at Walnut Creek have grown so much this year as readers.  Over the summer many students lose some of the achievement gains they made over the school year. Reading throughout the summer can help prevent a decline in reading achievement. There are many things you can do at home to help your child read over the summer and maintain the reading growth they have made this school year. Here are a few ideas:

    • The public library offers a great reading program over the summer. In addition, they have a bookstore with books to purchase at a very low price.
    • Going on a road trip this summer? This is a great time to listen to an audio book together as a family.  Take time to discuss the story while you're all in the car together.  You can also load up a tablet with online books for your child to read during the drive.
    • Barnes and Nobles offers a free Summer Reading Program- See the store or their website for more details.
    • Listening to adults read is beneficial for children, no matter their age.  You can read a chapter book together as a family or your child can listen to celebrities read books online at Storylineonline.net.
    • Don’t forget to participate in the Walnut Creek Summer Reading BINGO.  This will help your child read a variety of books over the summer.

Thank you for encouraging your child to enjoy reading. It will make a big impact on your child's academic future. Let Mrs. Albano, Walnut Creek's Literacy Coach, know if you have any questions. Happy Reading!!!

  • Daily Schedule

    8:05 a.m. to 3:05 p.m.

We request that students not arrive before 7:40 a.m.  If you have a need to have your child arrive before that time, please contact our Kid’s Club at 402-898-9633 to arrange for your child to be in a supervised environment upon their arrival at school.  The Kid’s Club hours are 6:30 a.m. until 6:00 p.m.

    Walnut Creek Walkers

Students should NOT arrive at school prior to 7:40 as there is NO supervision and it is UNSAFE. Whenever your child arrives at school prior to 8:00 they will join in and walk around the building. Walnut Creek Walkers is a great way for your child to get some exercise before they start their day at school. Walnut Creek Walkers will happen every day either outside or inside depending on the weather.  All parents are welcome to join and walk with us.  Certified staff members will lead the walkers everyday.

  • Attendance /Appointments

Should your child be absent or going to an appointment before school, please make sure that you notify the office.  Upon their arrival to school, these students should check in at the office.  Students leaving the school at any time during school hours, must check out through the office.  Only upon parents’ arrival at the school will we call the student down from the classroom.  If the student should return to school after an appointment, they need to check back in with the office.  It is always a good idea to send a note in the morning to the student’s teacher, informing them of any early dismissals or appointments.  Thank you!
